Cycle touring in Ireland warts and all

      Welcome to travellogireland.com

This website started some time ago as a means of  selling a book I have written about walking or  cycling 'The Kerry Way'. It is a long distance walking  route in Ireland that can be cycled as well as walked  (give or take the odd diversion). It is in a beautiful  part of Ireland on The Iveragh Peninsula in the  South West of the country. The peninsula is much  better known as The Ring of Kerry. Over a period of  time the site has evolved into something quite  different which is a critique of Ireland's cycle touring  routes. I am fearlessly on the side of the touring  cyclists (the pannier brigade) and if you want to  know the unvarnished truth about Ireland's cycling  routes then read on. If you are happy with the  blather one reads on other sites about cycling in  Ireland then leave this site immediately!

I am a 'paint me warts and all' kind of person who  takes no hostages. According to the Irish tourist  board there are 81 cycling routes in Ireland. This is  absolute nonsense as most of them could not be  described as suitable for leisure cycling and I am  going to prove it by cycling them all whatever length  it takes or how miserable I get cycling them. As I  cycle them I will post my findings on this web site  for everyone to read. Having read my account the  reader can cross check what I have written  by  simply  using google earth. In addition I intend  to write a blog from time to time which I hope  proves of interest. I believe that the best way to  experience any country or region is to walk it or  cycle it. The book I have written 'The Kerry Way' is  not just a guide book on this way marked route, it is  also a narrative of my experiences on my travels  around the peninsula. I represent no one other than  myself and that is the way I intend to continue. For  any information about cycle touring in Ireland the  reader can contact at bikey@travellogireland.com. I  will help if I can.
